Joseph Andreano, of Merrick, died when his compact SUV crashed into a tree in Merrick, while heading southbound on Merrick Avenue, at around 2:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.

The teen, who was the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene, Nassau County Police said.

Andreano was a senior at Merrick’s Calhoun High School, according to a GoFundMe campaign organized by Leonora Gomes.

“On Sunday September 22nd the Andreano family suffered the unbearable loss of their child,” Gomes said.

“On top of the grief that this family is experiencing, they now [face] the excruciating task of laying their son to rest. Huge financial burdens no one should have to deal with in a time like this.”

The campaign had raised over $26,000 as of Wednesday, Oct. 2. Those who wish to donate can do so here.

Funeral services for Andreano were held Friday, Sept. 30, in Farmingdale.
